During Spring 2022, I was a Fashion Designer at Carnegie Mellon's annual student-run fashion show -- Lunar Gala, where I ran a line under the theme: Eternal Garden.
Lotus, (called Lian 莲 in Chinese), though roots in slush and mud, away from sun, finally surpasses water, shines upon the pond, produces the most beautiful flowers ever. In Buddhism, Lotus represents purity, rebirth, and enlightenment. Analogous to modern life, as one overcomes countless pains and toughness, they reach a new conscious state.
Lian explores the evolution of nature and ancient spirits in 20s society, particularly how spiritual elements collides with Gen-Z trends among East Asian young people. In this line, by visualizing the spiritual image of Lotus, we insinuated modern young people's mindsets of thriving in post-covid life.
